I got out of my car and walked the short distance through the parking lot to the hut and immediately got dizzy, nauseous, and had to sit down.
Altitude sickness is a concern. Be on guard for symptoms: nausea, headache, dizziness, and shortness of breath. Pregnant women and people with heart or respiratory conditions should consult their doctor before visiting and hiking in the Summit Area
Is it a scary drive to Haleakala? The 20-mile drive up Highway 378 ascends steeply to the summit, and the 2-lane road has many tight bends and steep drop-offs. These features mean it can be dangerous if you don't drive cautiously, and some travellers might find this scary.
Is trip to Haleakala worth it?Visiting Haleakala National Park is a bucket list item for most visitors to Maui. There aren't many places where you can get such an up-close view of a dormant volcano. And visiting the volcano during sunrise or sunset is an incredible experience. Watching the sky light up as the sun rises or sets can be awe inspiring
